Louisa Gators Swim Team

Are you ready to get out of the house this summer? If so, come join the Louisa GATORS Swim Team! We are back in action although things may look a bit different due to the pandemic. The team is open to all area children ages 5 through 18 (age as of 6/1/21). Anyone can be on our team, previous competitive experience is not necessary. The Louisa Gators will teach you what is needed to participate. All that is needed is the ability to go under water comfortably and to swim through the water for a short distance of five to ten feet. (Please note: swimmers who are afraid to get their face wet or to go completely underwater should register for LCPRT Learn to Swim programs instead of signing up for the Gators.) Our team competes in the Jefferson Swim League (JSL) which features teams in the Charlottesville area. We will have six swim meets which may be conducted virtually or in person (specific league procedures are not available at this time). Currently, it does not appear that the season will culminate in a Championship Meet where all teams compete together due to COVID restrictions. Team practices will be held most weekdays in the morning and/or evenings at the Louisa County Aquatic Facility during the months of June & July. Specific practice times will be determined based on the swimmer’s age and ability. In general, swim meets will be held on Wednesday nights.

The Gators are a family oriented swim team, and usually provide a few family events in addition to team events. We are unsure as to how these may look for this summer. Parent participation is REQUIRED to conduct meets. We like competition, but the Gator experience is not all about winning. We focus on being part of a team, improving skills and self-esteem, being active, having fun, practicing good sportsmanship, and ALWAYS doing our best!

At this time, we are not sure how many people will be allowed in the facility and/or pool at any given time. Therefore, SPACE IS LIMITED especially for younger children who need assistance in the water. To safely protect all team members during this pandemic, we will be limiting the number of swimmers per lane during each practice session. In order to compete in a meet, the swimmer must be able to swim the length of the main pool without assistance. Swimmers who are unable to meet this condition should sign up for Gator Prep Team and/or LCPRT Learn to Swim programs. Those swimmers registered for the Prep Team will be moved onto the Gator team as they become ready or at the end of session.

Gator registration fee includes 8 weeks of practice, team t-shirt, team swim cap and JSL league fees. The cost for the 2021 season will vary depending upon when a swimmer signs up and pays. Swimmers who register by May 15th will be eligible for the Early Gator rate of $175 per swimmer. After the Early Gators deadline, the price will be $200 for all swimmers. Financial assistance is available through the swim team for those who qualify. Additional information and all registration forms will be available on the Gators’ swim team website www.louisagators.org.

Registration forms and fees may be completed and mailed to the swim team at the following address:  POGA, P O Box 1373, Louisa, VA 23093. The Gators accept payment via cash, check or credit card. Forms and fees may also be submitted to the LCPRT office during regular business hours PROVIDING you are paying by CHECK made payable to POGA. In addition, the swim team will be accepting forms and payments at the Betty Queen Center on May 13th from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. All registration fees should be paid in full by June 4, 2021. If you have additional questions, please visit the Gator website or contact our coach at coachdebrab@yahoo.com.

The Louisa Gator Prep Team is designed for children ages 5 through 18 who are comfortable in the water but may be unable to swim the length of the pool and/or need instruction on specific skills. Swimmers MUST be willing and able to put their face and head under water, float on back and stomach, and maneuver through the water in some manner. (Please note: swimmers who are afraid to get their face wet or to go completely under water should register for LCPRT Learn to Swim programs instead of signing up for the Gators.) The Gators Prep Team members are considered a part of the Louisa Gators and are expected to progress to the Gator Swim Team at the end of the Prep Team Session. Due to the close contact required, SPACE WILL BE LIMITED! The Prep Team will practice during the same time frame as the Gator Team. Specific times will be available on the team website.
