Participants will learn firearm safety laws and familiarization of handguns and ammunition, as well as how to handle a weapon safely and the laws regarding use of a firearm in a self-defense situation. This Firearm Safety Course is one of the steps necessary to qualify for a concealed weapon's permit. Participants must pass the classroom portion of this course and must provide their own handgun and ammunition for the Firing Range portion of the course. This course is open to anyone age 21 and older and is taught by Lieutenant Clay Hart of the Louisa County Sheriff's Department. Men and women will participate together in these new one-day classes which will first meet at the Sheriff's Department Conference Room and then conclude at the Firing Range.
