LCSO CLEA Information
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office is offering a Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy (CLEA) to the citizens, business owners and county employees of the County of Louisa. It is a program designed to provide the public with a working knowledge of the mission, operations, policies and personnel of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. The goal is to create trust and understanding between the sheriff’s office and the citizens of the County of Louisa, and developing a productive outlet for the mutual sharing of information and concerns in order to further the goal of a safer Louisa County. It is a known fact that community involvement is the most powerful force any law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime. Through the "CITIZEN’S LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY", citizens become more involved in making the County of Louisa a better place to work and live.
Although graduates of the Citizen’s Academy are not qualified for daily street duty, they do acquire a better understanding of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office operations and responsibilities. Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy graduates gain greater awareness and appreciation of the difficult challenges and decisions a deputy sheriff faces every day. Your instructors will include deputies, CID (Criminal Investigations Division) detectives, crime scene investigators, detectives working dangerous narcotics investigations, and prosecutors from the Commonwealth Attorneys Office. You’ll hear from members of the Special Response Team (SWAT), crime prevention officers, and even receive a tour of the agency’s Communications Center.
NOTE: This academy is not for law enforcement certification. It is offered for educational purposes only. There is no guarantee of employment with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office upon completion of this course.
Each academy will be comprised of one 3 hour session per week for 14 weeks, along with 2 Saturday sessions for firearms and driving, and will include presentations and participation in all aspects of law enforcement, including but not limited to instruction in the procedures of patrol, investigations, special operations, communications, court security, crime prevention and other facets of law enforcement.
Seating is extremely limited for this popular program so we encourage you to submit your application early.
You won’t find a better way to learn about your Sheriff’s Office, and the dangerous and difficult jobs done by the men and women of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, than by attending our citizens law enforcement academy!
