HISTORICAL ATTRACTIONS

Louisa County is a natural tourist magnet, being positioned in a particularly beautiful part of the U.S. where many historically significant events occurred.

The Piedmont area between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Atlantic coastal plain is famous for its multifaceted recreational appeal.

Geese
  • Water sports. Lake Anna and Lake Louisa provide swimming, fishing, boating, and sailing. In addition, jet skiing and sailboarding are allowed on Lake Anna. Lake Anna State Park, several private marinas, and several campgrounds offer a wide range of activities and equipment rentals.
  • Links. The Virginia Department of Tourism has a great deal of information about the County's attractions and events.
From the Revolutionary days through the Civil War, Virginia and Louisa County have been in the hub of history. Whether you are inspired by that great patriot Patrick Henry or curious about the largest all-cavalry engagement of the Civil War, you will find your visit to Louisa County steeped in the history of America.
Downtown Louisa
  • Historic Downtown Louisa. A charming village atmosphere where browsers can shop and dine. Stores, churches, offices, and residences, some dating from the 18th century, create a back-to-the-past ambiance. A walking guide will shortly be available.
  • Green Springs National Historic District. Drive through the beautiful 14,000 acre Green Springs National Historic Landmark District. The District has more than 250 original 18th and 19th century structures, of which 36 homes and dependencies are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Reenactors
  • Battle of Trevilian Station, the largest cavalry battle of the Civil War. This site is in the process of being restored by the Trevilian Station Battlefield Foundation, which hosts living history reenactments of the battle in mid-June.
  • The Ride of Jack Jouett. Follow the trail of Jack Jouett through back roads and country lanes as he rides to Albemarle to warn Thomas Jefferson of the oncoming British, and save the lives of Jefferson and other founding fathers. A tape tour and map is being prepared and will be available soon.
  • Museum and Courthouse. Visit the Historical Society Museum and see memorabilia from another era, for research your family genealogy in the records of the beautiful Louisa County Courthouse.

Louisa County-- Easy to find, Hard to Leave. The Louisa County Tourism Council's brochure outlining the many attractions of the County.
