Louisa's Community Cupboard is a program of the Louisa County Resource Council. Opened in December 1999 with 75 participants today, the Cupboard serves approximately 1,000 families a month or 1600 individuals. The Community Cupboard provides monthly bags of non-perishable foods to income eligible individuals and families.

Louisa's Community Cupboard is a cooperative effort between the Central Virginia Food Bank in Richmond, VA, Walmart, Food Lion and Farmer's Foods, local churches, and Volunteers. Most food for the monthly supplemental bags is provided by the USDA.

In addition to the USDA food, Louisa's Community Cupboard also provides the intake and screenings for the Louisa County Emergency Food Pantry which meets crisis needs.

DONATIONS AND PROGRAM NEEDS

All food recipients are encouraged to contribute to the cost of operating Louisa's Community Cupboard. This can be done by collecting and donating grocery bags, by volunteering, and / or by making a monetary contribution.

The Cupboard distributes over 15,000 pounds of food each month to Louisa County residents. With the growing number of participants needing supplemental food and the mission of the Advisory Board, to increase the quality and quantity of food to participants, the Cupboard is rapidly.
