Office of the County Attorney
The County Attorney's Office provides day-to-day advice and representation to Louisa County's Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, County Departments including the Department of Human Services, electoral board, and the various other authorities, boards, and commissions whose members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. To that end, the County Attorney's Office provides all necessary legal services and support to client department and agencies, including defending and bringing actions in which the County, any of its agencies, boards, officials or employees will be a party. The County Attorney's Office is responsible for the review and approval of all legal transactions involving the County as well as drafting of legal documents and instrument, e.g., deeds and ordinances. The County Attorney's Office serves as the primary contact for requests for information made by Virginia citizens under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act; the Office also coordinates the responses thereto.

The County Attorney's Office also provides limited legal support and services to Louisa County's Constitutional Officers: Circuit Court Clerk, Commissioner of the Revenue, Commonwealth's Attorney, and Treasurer. Individual County employees may be represented by the County Attorney's Office in civil matters arising out of the employee's performance of their work duties for the County.

The County Attorney's Office does not provide legal advice, representation or services to individuals in private matters. Criminal and traffic matters are prosecuted by the local Commonwealth's Attorney and are handled through the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney.
